IMAS scientist receives national award for women in research

IMAS scientist Dr Delphine Lannuzel is one of just 12 leading researchers across Australia to be recognised for her outstanding research achievements, at the inaugural Women in Research Citation Awards presented this week at the Australian National University (ANU).

Dr Lannuzel, an ARC DECRA fellow, works in sea ice biogeochemistry, the study of trace metals in the sea ice environment. Her research also is supported by IMAS and the Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems CRC.

The national citation awards are designed to encourage greater gender equity in research and were jointly presented in Canberra by Clarivate Analytics and the ANU.

The Centre Director of IMAS’s Oceans and Cryosphere Research Centre, Professor Nathan Bindoff, said the award reflected Dr Lannuzel’s exceptional performance as a researcher.

“Delphine is a wonderful example of a female performing outstandingly in a very competitive academic field.

“Clarivate have done a fantastic analysis of publication and citation data across Australia and shown that there is no difference between the performance of women and men, providing further evidence - if any were ever needed - that there should be more women in professorial posts.”

The Women in Research Citation Awards honour the outstanding achievements of early to mid-career women researchers in Australia across all fields of research in science, social sciences and the humanities.
