Tagging

What if I catch a tagged fish?

IMAS has a number of tagging programs underway, so you may catch a tagged fish, particularly abalone, rock lobster, shark species, sand flathead, bream, trumpeter and banded morwong.

Fish may be tagged with either t-bar or acoustic tags (see images below). For either tag type please record as much of the following information as possible:

  • Type of fish

  • Where you caught it

  • The Size

  • The tag number

  • and date

then call IMAS on (03) 6227 7280 or email fish.tag@utas.edu.au
