  • Project Summary

The project involves the development of software in the form of a mobile phone application designed to assist indigenous Torres Strait commercial fishers and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority (AFMA) record and analyse catch data. Currently, catch and effort data within the finfishery are collected on a voluntary basis and lack of data has resulted in uncertainty regarding levels of harvest, fishing effort, stock assessments, and the ongoing sustainability of the fishery. The project aims to pilot the software and examine both its effectiveness in improving the quantity and quality of data collection and issues related to uptake by local fishers.
