In Australia and overseas, there is a clear demand from government, research institutions and industry for marine scientists with high level quantitative (mathematical and computational) skills and training. The QMS Program has been developed specifically to address this need.

The program is jointly funded by CSIRO and the University of Tasmania (UTAS) and offers candidates access to:

  • cutting edge laboratories and sea-going facilities of CSIRO and UTAS;
  • well-resources projects drawing on the the combined research and teaching skills of CSIRO and UTAS;
  • the strongest and most diverse academic training ground for temperate and Southern Ocean marine science in Australia;
  • intensive short courses in quantitative marine science; and
  • generous scholarships.

With over 100 marine science academics/researchers within the two agencies, high quality research infrastructure, a long-standing culture of collaboration, and Hobart's international reputation as a centre of excellence in marine science, the Program offers an exciting and innovative postgraduate opportunity.

Our graduates have found jobs in Australia and overseas at various Universities, Government agencies and research institutions. Read more about their individual career paths for an insight into the kind of future you could have.
