Rock lobster and abalone are both highly prized catches for recreational fishers in Tasmania as well as providing the basis of major commercial fisheries. Surveys of the recreational fisheries for these species have been undertaken every second year since 2000 and are designed to monitor fishery performance against the management reference points and to provide catch information for the recreational sector as a key input into the fishery assessments. This project applies a proven and robust survey methodology involving a phone-diary survey of recreational licence-holders.
