Currently, I’m a postdoctoral researcher at GOEMAR Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel in Germany and I started this position immediately after submitting my PhD thesis.
I would say what I like the most about this program is the collaboration between UTAS-IMAS professors and CSIRO scientists, which gives an excellent opportunity for students to work with various people on current ongoing research topics (both based on industry and science), and opens the doors to collaborate nationally and internationally. This networking (or collaboration) is critical for sharing ideas and research, but it is also beneficial for future career opportunities.
This program helped me in my current career as well as in my future career in many ways because I have not only received my doctorate degree but have also learned lots of skills that are necessary to survive and grow in this research field. In addition to the above, this program has taught me how to deal with difficult situations (or problems) and effective ways to find a solution to them. So, overall, I would say this program has given me a lot for my current and future career.
Update 2024: Abhi is currently at the Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science University of Miami as a Postdoctral Research Associate
