Dr Pearse Buchanan

Headshot of Pearse Buchanan

What is your current role?

Postdoctoral research Fellow at the Carnegie Institute for Global Ecology, Stanford, USA. My research focuses on the mechanisms that control ocean biogeochemical cycles, particularly involving the interactions between plankton and their physical environment.

I am particularly interested in using stable isotopes of nitrogen and carbon to understand these biogeochemical interactions at a deeper level.

What did you like best about the program?

I liked the diversity of subjects.

How has it helped you in your current career?

It helped me most by exposing me to a broad range of topics outside of my niche subfield. Sometimes just knowing the names of things and having a slight recollection of what a certain technique of concept is very useful.
